FG Scraps JAMB as Mandatory Requirement for Admission, Empowers Institutions to Use SSCE Results

The Federal Government has announced a major change in Nigeria’s tertiary education admission policy, declaring that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will no longer be the sole or mandatory requirement for securing admission into higher institutions.

Under the new directive issued by the Federal Ministry of Education, universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education now have the autonomy to admit students based on their Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results or its equivalent.

The Ministry explained that the reform is designed to grant institutions greater flexibility in managing their admissions and to ensure that qualified candidates are not denied access to higher education due to limitations in the previous system.
