Fire Destroys N-Power Training Tools Worth Billions at Abuja Warehouse

A devastating fire engulfed the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA) warehouse in the Idu Industrial Area of Abuja, destroying training tools worth billions of Naira. The tools were designated for the N-Power scheme, a flagship programme aimed at equipping Nigerian youth with skills for economic empowerment.

 

The fire, which broke out in the early hours of the morning, was said to have spread rapidly, consuming equipment and materials meant for training thousands of beneficiaries under the NSIPA initiative. Despite efforts by fire-fighters to contain the inferno, the damage was extensive, leaving the warehouse in ruins.

The Minister of State for the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, expressed shock over the incident. While visiting the scene, Dr. Sununu described the loss as a significant setback for the government’s poverty alleviation efforts and announced immediate steps to investigate the cause of the fire.

 

“I have directed the formation of a five-member committee to thoroughly investigate this unfortunate incident,” Dr. Sununu stated. “The committee will assess the extent of the damage, determine the cause of the fire, and recommend measures to prevent future occurrences.”

 

Preliminary reports suggest that the fire might have been caused by an electrical fault, although authorities have yet to confirm this. Officials from the Federal Fire Service have assured the public of a comprehensive report once investigations are concluded.

The N-Power scheme, part of the National Social Investment Programme, has been instrumental in training and empowering Nigerian youth with various vocational skills.
