Former Edo Assembly Speaker, Ativie Heads Edo Labour Party Caretaker Committee

The Labour Party’s national leadership, under Barrister Julius Abure, has formed a caretaker committee to oversee the Edo State Chapter of the party following the conclusion of the Ogbaloi-led Executive Council’s term in April, 2024.
The 17-member caretaker committee, led by Rt. Hon. Mrs. Elizabeth Ativie, former speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, was inaugurated on May 27, 2024, in Benin City by Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Ayo Olorunfemi.
Dr. Olorunfemi emphasized the committee’s responsibility to manage the party’s affairs until a new executive is elected through a fresh congress.
He highlighted Rt. Hon. Mrs. Elizabeth Ativie’s track record and positive impact in her previous political roles as the reason for her appointment as Edo State Chairman, emphasizing the need for unity within the party.
Hon. Esosa lyawe, the member representing Oredo Federal Constituency, praised the national leadership for appointing Hon. Elizabeth Ativie and expressed the party’s readiness for the upcoming Edo State Governorship election, with Barrister Olumide Akapata as its gubernatorial candidate.
Additionally, Hon. Murphy Osaro Omoruyi, the member representing Egor/lkpoba Okha Federal Constituency, congratulated the new leadership and stressed the importance of uniting all factions within the party.
In response, Rt. Hon Mrs. Elizabeth Ativie, the new Chairman of the Labour Party in the State, promised to elevate the party’s status within the state, emphasizing her commitment to reconciling all factions.
She also announced plans to establish a reconciliation team to address pending party issues. The secretary of the Party, Hon. Oses Emmanuel Eromwonsele, commended the party members for their attendance at the inauguration.
The new executive is expected to collaborate with the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Barrister Olumide Osaigbovo Akapata, to secure victory in the Governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024, as per the directive of the National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure.
