Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has announced plans to establish a new Governing Council for Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, following the presentation of the end-of-tenure report by the outgoing Special Intervention Team (SIT).
The governor expressed confidence that the new council will build on the achievements of the SIT and continue to drive the university towards excellence.
During a meeting with the outgoing SIT, Governor Obaseki emphasized that AAU is a state university that should remain free from any form of ethnic domination. “AAU is not an Esan University but a state university which should be devoid of any ethnic domination,” he stated, underlining the inclusive vision for the institution.
The governor took the opportunity to commend the SIT for their dedication and hard work under challenging circumstances. “I express my profound gratitude and appreciation to the chairman and members of the Special Intervention Team of the State-owned Ambrose Alli University for the great success they have achieved in their work despite the challenging circumstances under which the SIT was established,” said Obaseki.
Reflecting on the university’s past prestige, Governor Obaseki noted, “A few decades ago, AAU was among the nationally and internationally rated universities, unlike the situation we face today. I am glad the SIT has made significant efforts to address the decline and restore the institution’s reputation.”
Despite the progress made, the governor acknowledged that there remains considerable work ahead. “However, there is still much work to be done. A new Governing Council will be constituted to take over from the outgoing SIT,” he concluded.
The new Governing Council is expected to continue the momentum initiated by the SIT, aiming to further elevate AAU’s status and ensure it meets its educational and developmental goals.
