Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has boosted security operations in the state with the donation of 10 brand new Toyota Hilux patrol vehicles to the Nigeria Police Force, Irrua Area Command.
The vehicles, officially handed over at a brief commissioning ceremony, are part of the state government’s renewed efforts to enhance the mobility and operational capacity of security agencies across Edo Central Senatorial District and beyond.
Speaking at the event, Governor Okpebholo said the gesture was born out of genuine concern for the safety of lives and property, noting that no society can thrive in an atmosphere of insecurity.
“It is not because we have bought vehicles for the police,” he said. “It is because of the concern of our people in terms of security. It is painful that somebody will leave home and may not return because of evil people. We must continue to fight them and chase them out of our land.”
He lauded the Inspector-General of Police for deploying the Mobile Police (MOPOL) 82 Squadron to Uromi, describing the deployment as “very dear” to the people of the district.
“We cannot just leave them without equipment or vehicles,” the governor added. “When they hear that something is happening elsewhere, how will they respond quickly without the tools? That is why we procured these vehicles.”
Governor Okpebholo also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support to Edo State, noting that federal backing has strengthened his administration’s developmental strides.
“I want to thank Mr President who believes in Edo and continues to fund us. Without the federal government’s support, we cannot achieve much,” he said. “The economic reforms he has carried out truly speak volumes about the development of this country.”
In separate remarks, the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, the Majority Leader, Hon. Jonathan Ibhamawu, the Area Commander, and the Vice Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Shaka Momodu Williams, all commended the governor for his sustained commitment to security and development across the region.
Other dignitaries at the event included the Edo APC Chairman, Emperor Jarret Tenebe; retired General Cecil Esekhaigbe, Edo Central Senatorial Leader; and Senator Joe Ikpea.
The ceremony ended with a symbolic presentation of the vehicle keys to police authorities, marking yet another milestone in the Okpebholo administration’s drive to make Edo a safer and more secure State.
