Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has charged members of the 2025 Batch A Stream 1 of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to remain purposeful and committed as they move into their primary places of assignment across the State.
Speaking at the official closing of the orientation course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ovia North-East, the Governor, represented by Mr Aiyegbeni Balogun, Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Humanitarian Affairs, urged corps members to make meaningful contributions to their host communities, stating that the legacy they leave behind would speak louder than their duration of service.
“You have shown great zeal and discipline over the last three weeks,” the Governor remarked. “I urge you to carry these values forward, particularly the entrepreneurial skills you’ve acquired under the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme. These are tools that can drive both personal and national development.”
Senator Okpebholo also called for vigilance and personal responsibility, advising corps members to prioritise their safety. He cautioned against unnecessary travel, accepting lifts from strangers, and other risky behaviour, reiterating the government’s commitment to the welfare of Corps members.
Also speaking at the event, NYSC State Coordinator Mrs Ben-Ushie Frances Ifeoma praised the corps members for their resilience throughout the orientation period. She highlighted the rigours of camp life, including physical drills, lectures, and skill-building sessions, and encouraged participants to build on the foundation laid during the three-week programme.
“The SAED initiative offers a springboard for economic self-sufficiency,” she noted. “I urge you to continue your post-camp training and further develop your skills. Edo is a welcoming place and you’ll find its people warm and supportive.”
Among the dignitaries present was Mr Okhiwere Balogun, representing the Acting Chairman of Ovia North-East Local Government Council, Hon. Omoruyi Igbinake.
The ceremony concluded with a spirited parade by corps members and three rousing cheers offered to the Governor, marking the end of a transformative orientation experience.
