Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, and his Deputy, Dennis Idahosa, have expressed their gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the ongoing repair works on the Benin-Sapele-Warri road, hailing the improvements as a significant boost to the region’s infrastructure.
The two leaders, accompanied by the project’s contractor, visited sections of the vital 30-kilometre stretch currently being upgraded. Both officials conveyed their satisfaction with the progress made, particularly in addressing long-standing issues of poor road conditions that had plagued the road for years.
“This road is an economic lifeline for the people of Edo and Delta States. It connects major towns and facilitates trade, so we are pleased with the work being carried out,” said Governor Okpebholo. He added that while some portions had previously been impassable, the repairs were progressing rapidly, and the road was being transformed into a much-needed route for commuters and businesses alike.
The Governor continued to praise President Tinubu for his determination to improve the region’s infrastructure. “Under President Tinubu’s leadership, we can see the dividends of democracy at work. The Federal Government’s commitment to this road project is evident in the continuous funding, and we are confident it will be completed on time,” he said. “With this development, Edo is becoming a model of progress, much like Lagos State.”
Deputy Governor Idahosa echoed these sentiments, expressing confidence that the repairs would soon be completed to the benefit of local residents and road users. He emphasised that the Edo State government would continue to monitor the project to ensure it meets the required standards.
Levent Contractors, the firm responsible for the first section of the road, explained that they were using advanced methods, including continuous concrete rigid pavement, to ensure the durability of the road. The aim, they noted, is to create a lasting infrastructure solution capable of withstanding decades of wear.
