The Governor of Edo State, Mr Monday Okpebholo, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of General Jeremiah Useni (retired), the former military administrator of the defunct Bendel State.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the Governor described the late General Useni as a towering figure whose contributions to the region’s development were immeasurable.
General Useni, who served as military administrator from 1984 to 1986, played a pivotal role in shaping the course of what are now Edo and Delta States. His leadership was marked by a focus on education reforms, the development of essential infrastructure, and a steadfast commitment to justice and public welfare.
The Governor noted that Useni’s tenure left a lasting impact on the lives of many, citing his enduring dedication to the people of Bendel State. “He was not just a leader but a true statesman, whose vision and actions continue to resonate today,” Governor Okpebholo said. “His commitment to public service, his spirit of optimism, and his selfless dedication to improving the lives of the people of Bendel State will always be remembered.”
Governor Okpebholo extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the late General Useni, as well as to his friends and loved ones. He further stated that Useni’s passing is a loss not only to Edo State but to the entire nation, as he was a beacon of hope and an inspiration to many.
“As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate his life, which will continue to inspire generations of public servants,” Governor Okpebholo said, offering thoughts and prayers to all who grieve this great loss.
