Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma, has gifted a total of N70 million to six Super Falcons players and an assistant coach from the state in recognition of their outstanding performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Each of the footballers received N10 million, including Chiamaka Nnadozie, Jennifer Echegini, Osinachi Ohale, Oluchi Oluehi, Chinwendu Ihezuo, and Michelle Alozie. Assistant coach Ann Chiejine, also from Imo State, was similarly rewarded with N10 million.

Governor Uzodinma presented the monetary gifts during a reception held in their honour at the Government House in Owerri.

The Super Falcons recently clinched the 2024 WAFCON title after a dramatic 3-2 victory over hosts Morocco in the final, reaffirming Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football.

Speaking at the event, Governor Uzodinma praised the athletes for making the state and the entire country proud. He described their triumph as a demonstration of resilience, discipline, and patriotism.

“You have not only lifted the flag of Nigeria high but have also brought glory to Imo State. We are proud of you,” Uzodinma stated.

The players had earlier been honoured by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who rewarded each squad member with $100,000, a three-bedroom bungalow, and the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON).
