A High Court Judge, Justice E. G. Umokoro, was kidnapped on Saturday evening by armed assailants in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State.
Justice Umokoro, who presides over High Court 7 in Yenagoa, was abducted in front of a popular eatery, Kilimanjaro, located in the Ekeki area of the city. According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen attempted to shoot the judge as he emerged from the establishment but missed, before forcefully dragging him into a waiting car and speeding away.
The brazen abduction sparked pandemonium, with bystanders and patrons at the eatery fleeing for safety. The area was left deserted moments after the attack, with many fearing a return of the kidnapping wave that has plagued the state in recent years.
Security agencies have yet to release an official statement, but sources indicate that a manhunt has been launched to locate the judge and apprehend the perpetrators.
