Gunmen Attack Church in Delta State, Kidnap Worshippers, Shoot Pastor

Gunmen launched a violent assault on a church in Asagba Ogwashi, Delta State, during a night vigil on Saturday, leaving the pastor critically injured and six worshippers abducted.

The attackers stormed the Elyon Paradise Ministry Church, located in the Aniocha South Local Government Area, and opened fire on the congregation. Among the victims was the church’s pastor, Apostle Divine Omodia, who was shot and had two fingers severed by the assailants.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, which was reported to authorities on Saturday evening. He stated that a rescue operation is currently underway, with teams searching the surrounding bush for the missing worshippers.

At present, there has been no communication from the kidnappers regarding any ransom demand. The whereabouts of the six abducted church members remain unknown, and it is unclear whether any specific motive was behind the attack.

The pastor, severely wounded, was rushed to hospital, where medical staff are working to stabilise his condition. Community members are in shock, and local authorities are intensifying efforts to track down those responsible.
