The House of Representatives has initiated the screening process for the nominated service chiefs put forward by President Bola Tinubu.
The nominees include Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff, Taoreed Lagbaja as Chief of Army Staff, Emmanuel Ogalla as Chief of Naval Staff, and Hassan Abubakar as Chief of Air Staff.
The screening is being conducted by the principal officers of the House, with Julius Ihonvbere, the Majority Leader, leading the screening committee.
President Tinubu had previously written to the National Assembly, requesting confirmation of the security chiefs in accordance with Section 18(1) of the Armed Forces Act.
During the screening session on Monday, the nominees were given a brief opportunity to introduce themselves and make remarks. Lagbaja, addressing the legislators, expressed his commitment to working in collaboration with other security chiefs to ensure the nation’s security.
He acknowledged the existing security challenges and vowed to transform the army into a well-trained and proactive force.
Following the introductory session, the screening process moved into an executive session.
It is noteworthy that the Senate had already confirmed the appointment of the service chiefs last Thursday.
