House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas held a meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday night to address the ongoing strike by the National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria (NARD).
During the meeting, Speaker Abbas informed President Tinubu about his recent discussion with the NARD leadership and appealed to the doctors to postpone their planned strike, offering a two-week window to address their grievances.
To facilitate a resolution, Abbas established a temporary committee led by Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, the Leader of the House.
Despite the Speaker’s efforts, the resident doctors proceeded with their indefinite strike on Tuesday evening. However, Abbas directed the committee to expedite talks with all parties involved in order to swiftly end the strike.
