The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dennis Idahosa, has strongly refuted allegations linking him to secret cult groups, describing the claims as false, malicious and an attempt to smear his reputation.
In a statement issued in response to accusations made by Edo socialite Emmanuel Aigbogun, a copy of which was obtained by Uptown Press Nigeria, Idahosa dismissed the claims as “spurious, defamatory, and grossly misleading”. Aigbogun had alleged that the Deputy Governor, alongside other prominent Edo citizens, was involved in cult-related activities within the state.
Idahosa, a practising Christian, emphasised his commitment to peace, public service, and the fight against cultism. He stated that the accusations were “a deliberate attempt to tarnish my hard-earned reputation and to undermine my unwavering dedication to public service.”
“The claim that I am affiliated with any secret cult group is entirely false and baseless,” he said. “I vehemently deny any involvement, either past or present, in any cult-related activities.”
The Deputy Governor also reiterated the state government’s determination to tackle cultism, which he labelled a menace to society and a major obstacle to Edo State’s development. He assured citizens that the administration remains fully committed to eradicating cultism and restoring law and order across communities.
Idahosa warned that he would not treat the allegations lightly and plans to take legal action to ensure accountability for the defamation. “I will pursue all legal avenues to ensure that such defamation is addressed within the full extent of the law,” he asserted.
The Edo State Government has in recent months intensified its campaign against cult violence, which has posed a persistent threat to public safety in the State.
