The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has apprehended a notorious member of a kidnapping ring that has terrorised communities across the FCT, Kaduna, and Niger States.
The suspect, Abdulrahman Adamu, was arrested alongside seven other criminals following an extensive investigation and coordinated operations aimed at dismantling their criminal network.
Addressing the press on Monday, October 21, 2024, the Commissioner of Police, CP Tunji Disu, revealed that the suspects — Abdulrahman Giwa, Baba Hassan, Mohammed Dahiru, Abubakar Bature (alias Dayi), Abubakar Kadiri (alias Dare), Kabiru Ibrahim, Ya’u Adamu, and Hussani Ori (also known as Mugu) — were responsible for multiple kidnappings across the region.
Their leader, identified only as Mallam, was killed in a gunfight with police operatives.
The breakthrough came after a series of intelligence-led operations targeting the gang’s hideouts in the Kweri and Gauraka forests.
“During the operations, Mallam and eight other members of the gang were neutralized after a fierce gun battle. Regrettably, two of our officers sustained serious injuries and are receiving treatment,” CP Disu stated.
The commissioner further disclosed that the gang used secluded forests as makeshift camps where they held hostages for ransom, including locations in the Gidan Dogo Forest in Kaduna and Kachia Forest.
The police recovered several weapons from the suspects, including three AK-47 rifles, 100 rounds of live ammunition, and 10 magazines.
During an interview with journalists, Abdulrahman Adamu confessed to his involvement in the kidnappings, admitting that his share of the ransom from their most recent operation amounted to N600,000.
When asked about how he spent the money, Adamu shockingly admitted, “I used my money to drink and womanize.”
CP Disu reassured the public that operations are on-going to capture other fleeing members of the gang and recover more illegal arms.
The police have vowed to intensify their crackdown on criminal elements across the FCT and neighboring states, ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
