Former Edo governorship aspirant, Barr. Kenneth Imasuagbon, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the party as the “credible alternative” Nigerians have been waiting for.
Popularly known as “The Rice Man” due to his philanthropic rice donations over the years, Imasuagbon officially picked up his ADC membership card in Benin City on Tuesday, pledging to lead the fight for change amid worsening economic conditions in the country.
Imasuagbon, who previously contested elections under the platforms of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and most recently the Labour Party, said his move to the ADC was driven by Nigeria’s growing hardship and hunger.
“Prices have skyrocketed. I can no longer afford rice for Edo people. It’s no longer hunger, it is starvation,” he lamented. “Nobody will come from Jupiter to fix Nigeria. Only Nigerians can fix Nigeria, and that’s why I am joining ADC — the only party with the courage and clarity to lead us to the promised land.”
He added: “The naira has lost value, unemployment is on the rise, and Nigerians are tired. I am not satisfied with the level of poverty in the land. I call on all well-meaning Nigerians to join this movement. I am ready to lead the battle for change.”
Receiving him at the party secretariat, the Edo State Chairman of ADC, Kennedy Odion, hailed Imasuagbon’s decision as timely and strategic, stressing that the ADC was building momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“There’s no room to sit on the fence anymore,” Odion said. “The road to 2027 may be rough, but with credible leaders like Barr. Imasuagbon on board, we are confident the ADC will rise to the challenge and give Nigerians a better option.”
The defection comes amid a wave of political realignments in Edo State, as the countdown to the next governorship and general elections intensifies.
