Senator Neda Imasuen, representing Edo South Senatorial District, has reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing a people-centred legislative agenda, driven by the needs and aspirations of his constituents.
Speaking in Abuja, the Labour Party senator, who chairs the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, underscored the central role public interest plays in shaping his activities in the National Assembly.
“My work in the Senate is guided by the pressing concerns of Nigerians — from insecurity to education and healthcare. These are not just statistics; they are realities my constituents live with daily,” he said.
Addressing the recent surge in violence in parts of Edo South, Imasuen condemned the attacks in Columbo Camp and Maridoti Gbelamoten in Ovia South-West, as well as Siluko Ward in Ovia North-East. He described the incidents as “deeply troubling,” noting that they have led to loss of life, displacement of residents, and disruption of agricultural livelihoods.
He called on the Federal Government to urgently intervene, saying: “There is a need to reinforce security presence in these communities, thoroughly investigate the root causes of the violence, and introduce sustainable safety measures to restore normalcy.”
Turning to education, Imasuen cited the Federal College of Education, Abudu (Establishment) Bill, 2024, which he sponsored. The bill seeks to create a teacher training institution in Edo State, with the goal of improving educational standards, generating employment, and tackling the shortage of qualified educators.
On the health front, he highlighted his sponsorship of the Federal Medical Centres Act (Amendment) Bill, 2025. The proposed legislation aims to enhance the effectiveness of federal medical centres and improve access to healthcare in underserved areas.
“This bill is about equity in health access,” he explained. “Strengthening our medical centres will ensure that rural communities are not left behind in the delivery of essential health services.”
Senator Imasuen reiterated his belief that true legislative service lies in responding to the everyday challenges of the people, adding that his office remains open to feedback from constituents to better inform his work at the Senate.
