The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has categorically denied reports claiming the release of a timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election.
In a statement issued January 2, 2026, signed by Adedayo Oketola, Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, the commission clarified that no such timetable or schedule has been released, labeling the information as “false and misleading”.
INEC emphasized its commitment to operating within the law, citing Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, which stipulates a notice of election be published not later than 360 days before the general election date.
The commission assured Nigerians the official timetable will be released in due course, in compliance with the Constitution and Electoral Act, 2022, urging the public and media to rely on official INEC platforms for updates.
