The Iwo Local Government Secretariat has been given a new look by the new caretaker administration led by Hon. Moshood Kabiru Adekunle (Irorun).
It will be recalled that the caretaker chairman alongside other local government appointees and senior civil servants recently assessed the condition of the secretariat that had been left damaged for the past three years after the EndSARS attack.
The inspection provided a comprehensive insight into what was needed to be done and the urgency of same in order to make governmental works seamless in a conductive atmosphere. A report of the visit showed how the poor environment had left a telling impact on workers’ performance.
Hon. Kabir had said during the inspection that his administration was determined to mobilise every stakeholder, through the approval of the Governor Ademola Adeleke, within the ambit of the available resources to ensure the structure was given a facelift.
In fidelity with his determination, the government obtained necessary approvals leading to the rehabilitation of all the damaged areas, installation of new windows and doors as well as repainting of the building. Some office have also been equipped with new furniture.
It will also be recalled that the #EndSARS attack on the secretariat left a collateral damage on the building since 2020, which the past government did not fix till it left office. The previous administration led by the All Progressives Congress (APC) failed to carry out repair on the building till it lifetime expired.
The caretaker chairman mentioned that the renovation became necessary as to enable the new administration to carry out the functions of government from constitutionally-recognised premises and ensure the safety of public information.
It is important to state that some parts of the building, including some offices and stores, are yet to be renovated. The chairman assured the residents of Iwo Local Government and its officials that efforts are underway to complete the exercise as soon as resources permit.
