A major security operation has been launched in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State as the Council Chairman, Alabi Bliss Oshionogue, led a joint team of security operatives on an intensive bush-combing exercise aimed at flushing out kidnappers and bandits.
The operation, which covers Igarra and surrounding communities, forms part of renewed efforts to curb the resurgence of kidnapping and other violent crimes in the locality.
Addressing officers and men of the Edo State Security Corps during the exercise in Igarra, Oshionogue declared that his administration maintains a zero-tolerance stance against criminal activities.
He urged the security operatives to rise to the challenge and confront the threat head-on in order to restore lasting peace and safety across the council area.
According to the council boss, security remains a critical pillar of the development agenda of the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo.
“One critical component of Governor Okpebholo’s SHINE Agenda is security. A secured environment guarantees sustainable development, and as a government we are determined to stamp out kidnapping in Akoko-Edo,” he said.
Further details obtained by this online newspaper indicate that the operation is being carried out in collaboration with conventional security agencies and local security outfits as part of a coordinated strategy to dismantle criminal hideouts within forests and remote locations.
Also speaking, the Commander of the Eagle Crack Team from Benin City, Uangboje Elvis, called on officers to maintain discipline, cooperation and teamwork throughout the operation.
He cautioned operatives to work in close coordination to avoid incidents of crossfire while commending the council leadership and security agencies for their collaboration in tackling crime in the area.
The operation was attended by several security and government officials including the Area Commander, Charles Onuh, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Igarra Division, Oliha Aghaman, as well as other aides and security personnel.
Authorities say the bush-combing exercise will continue across flashpoints within the local government area as security forces intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks and restore confidence among residents.
