Killings: Edo Council Chairman Orders Total Crackdown On Cult Activities

The Etsako West Council Chairman, Hon. Marvelous Muhizu Zibiri, has expressed grave concerns over the recent upsurge in cult-related violence and killings within notable communities in the Council Area.

In statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Iyamah Prince Nuru on Thursday, the Chairman has ordered a total crackdown on cult killings in a bid to curb the menace and restore peace and security in the area.

Cult activities have led to loss of lives, injuries, and damages to properties. As such, Hon. Marvelous has directed all the security agencies, including the Edo State Security Network (ESSN), in the area to intensify their efforts in identifying and apprehending cult members. The Chairman has also called on community leaders, parents, and guardians to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

In addition to the crackdown on cult killings, the Chairman has instructed security agencies to embark on increased patrols and intelligence gathering to identify the hideouts and activities of cult groups. Targeted operations will also be carried out to dismantle these groups and apprehend their leaders.

Furthermore, the Council Chairman has called on graduating students in the Polytechnic and other institutions of higher learning located within the Council environs to cancel all forms of celebrations and jubilations that may breach security engagements. This is to ensure that the security agencies can focus their efforts on tackling the cult-related violence.

Hon. Marvelous emphasized that the safety and security of residents are of utmost importance, and the Council will not tolerate any form of criminality and cult-related issues. He urged all residents to cooperate with the security agencies by providing them with any necessary information that could lead to the arrest and prosecution of cult members.

The Chairman also called on the judiciary to expedite the prosecution of arrested cult members to serve as a deterrent to others. The crackdown on cult killings is a crucial step towards achieving lasting peace and security in the Etsako West Council Area, and the Chairman is determined to make the area safe for all residents.
