The Lagos State Government has issued an urgent warning to residents to stay clear of a fuel spill following the overturning of a diesel-laden tanker on the Tincan–Liverpool Bridge in Apapa, a major traffic corridor linking the port axis to the rest of the city.

The incident occurred on the bridge inward Mile 2, where the tanker reportedly lost balance and overturned, spilling diesel onto the roadway and causing severe traffic disruption along the busy route.

Confirming the development in an urgent situation report on Monday, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) said its response teams had been fully mobilised to contain the situation and avert further danger.

In a statement signed by the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA said: “Our attention has been brought to a fallen tanker at the above location, which is leaking fuel. All emergency responders have been activated and are en route to the location.”

The agency cautioned residents and road users against attempting to scoop fuel from the scene, warning that such actions could lead to explosions, fire outbreaks or other secondary incidents.

“Members of the public are urged to exercise extreme caution to avoid any secondary incident from scooping product or lighting any flame near the area,” the statement added.

Emergency officials are working to secure the area, manage traffic and safely contain the diesel spill, while motorists have been advised to seek alternative routes until the situation is fully brought under control.
