In a startling case before the Grade A Customary Court in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, a man identified as Hamzat has accused his wife, Safiyah, of engaging in what he described as diabolic practices, including using water from washing her private parts to prepare his meals.
Hamzat, who has filed for divorce, told the court that his wife’s behaviour changed drastically after their marriage, leading to constant disputes.
“She is stubborn and always insists on doing whatever she pleases,” he alleged.
He further claimed that Safiyah’s mother played a role in influencing her actions, stating, “I later realised that my mother-in-law was encouraging my wife to challenge my authority in the home.”
Hamzat alleged that his wife attempted to manipulate him through her actions.
Detailing his most shocking claim, he said, “My wife washed her private part and used the water to cook my food.”
According to him, this act was part of an effort to control him, but he insisted that it did not have the intended effect.
In addition, he accused Safiyah of theft, claiming that she frequently stole money meant for his business, which he said had pushed him towards financial ruin.
“She has nearly bankrupted my business because she regularly takes the money meant to keep it running,” he lamented.
Expressing concerns about the impact of her behaviour on their children, Hamzat described Safiyah as a “bad influence” and requested full custody of their three children.
He also urged the court to restrain her from harassing or interfering in his life after the divorce.
Despite being served court summonses, Safiyah failed to appear to respond to the allegations.
Presiding over the case, Judge S.M. Akintayo ordered that a fresh hearing notice be issued to her. The case has been adjourned to 8 April for further proceedings.
