An alleged internal conflict among internet fraud syndicate members has led to the tragic death of an 18-year-old boy in Ghana’s Volta Region, causing outrage and concern across the local community.
The deceased, identified only as Destiny (right pic above), was reportedly beaten to death by his cult leader, Perry Osasere, also known as “Perry Cash,” in an incident linked to the diversion of proceeds from a $2,500 online scam. The incident took place in Ho, the regional capital, where both individuals were said to be active members of the Maphite confraternity—a secretive cult group with transnational links.
Naija Confra reports that Osasere, who serves as both the Hustle Kingdom (HK) Chairman and the third-in-command within the Maphite hierarchy in the Volta Region, discovered that Destiny had allegedly diverted proceeds from fraudulent online transactions for personal use. Destiny had reportedly been recruited into the cult by Perry himself, likely to aid in the syndicate’s internet fraud operations.
In retaliation, Perry allegedly shaved the teenager’s head before subjecting him to a brutal beating at the HK office in Ho, reportedly with the help of others. Destiny succumbed to his injuries during a second round of beatings after an initial assault failed to result in his confession or restitution of funds.
The perpetrators initially attempted to bury the body but abandoned the plan, instead leaving Destiny’s remains in the building and fleeing the scene. Several days later, the police were reportedly tipped off anonymously and alerted to the presence of the body.
The name of another prominent figure in the cult, known only as Sly—the reported number one man in Maphite’s Volta Region network—was mentioned by witnesses. While conflicting accounts exist regarding his direct involvement, some sources claim Sly was present during or shortly after the first round of the assault and had urged Perry to stop the violence, retrieve what money he could, and deport Destiny back to Nigeria. However, Sly allegedly departed before the fatal second beating occurred.
Following Destiny’s death, members of the Maphite cult are said to have warned each other across the region to either flee or go into hiding.
Destiny, who was described as an aspiring artist, skilled video gamer, and social media streamer, had ambitions of furthering his education before his life was cut short.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ghana Police Service has not released an official statement regarding the incident.
