It was a night of glamour, recognition, and reflection as Megastar Communications, publishers of Mega Star Magazine, on Friday honoured Senator Neda Bernards Imasuen, representing Edo South Senatorial District, with the “Megastar Man of the Decade – Excellence in Grassroots Representation” Award.
The award, presented at a high-profile event in Abuja, celebrated Senator Imasuen’s unwavering commitment to ethical governance, people-centred representation, and transformative leadership at the grassroots.
Over twenty distinguished Nigerians were also recognised for their impact in various fields. Among them were Dr Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, Governor of Abia State, honoured as Outstanding Governor in Education Reform; Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, Megastar Lawmaker of the Decade; Alhaji Kabir Yusuf, Governor of Kano State, Champion of Educational Transformation; General Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Staff, Innovation in Defence and Homeland Security Strategy; Mr Seyi Adekunle, Fashion Luminary of the Decade; and Olusegun O’Daniels, Media Trailblazer of the Year.
The ceremony, marked by live performances and cultural displays, also featured a thought-provoking panel session on Accountability and Citizen Participation in Governance. Senator Imasuen, speaking during the session, advocated for the institutionalisation of civic education from primary school level to nurture patriotism and active citizenship among young Nigerians.
“Citizens’ participation in governance and open government systems are vital to rebuilding trust between leaders and the people,” he said.
A lawyer, reform advocate and visionary legislator, Senator Imasuen’s career spans over three decades of public service and advocacy. Called to the Nigerian Bar in 1985, he has worked both locally and internationally, including as a legal practitioner and public advocate in New York, where he championed social justice and community rights.
Upon his return to Nigeria in 2010, he contributed to several institutional reform projects, notably the European Union’s State Reforming Institutional Programme (SRIP), the Nigerian Governors’ Forum’s State Peer Review Mechanism (SPRM), and the World Bank-SEEFOR Project in Delta State, which influenced the adoption of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) policy.
Since his election to the Senate in 2023, Imasuen has continued to make his mark as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, where he promotes transparency and accountability in public affairs.
A firm believer that “legislators are the architects of a nation’s moral and developmental blueprint,” Senator Imasuen has earned widespread respect for his people-oriented initiatives, youth empowerment drives, and gender equality advocacy.
His numerous honours include awards from the Nigerian Bar Association, the University of Benin, the Catholic Men’s Association of Nigeria, and the Senate Press Corps, among others.
As Megastar Communications named him Man of the Decade, Senator Neda Bernards Imasuen stood tall, not just as a recipient of accolades, but as a symbol of principled politics, service, and the enduring belief that integrity remains the soul of public leadership.
