A middle-aged woman is currently in police net after allegedly assaulting a minor in Uromi, a community in Esan North-East Local Government of Edo State.
The leadership and members of Edo Civil Society Organisations (EDOCSO), through her Igueben community base centre on Friday 10th January, 2025 was informed of an inhuman, barbaric and cruel treatment by one Mrs Abigail Oluwarotimi (f) against a minor of 15yrs old (Master Jude Joseph) in Uromi.
According to the report, Jude was a pupil at Idumeka primary school Igueben, were the mother-in-law to Mrs Abigail was said to be the Headmistress. On noticing and observing the good character of Jude overtime though from a poor background, the head-teacher then approach the mother to allow Jude to follow her to Uromi and stay as a house-maid with her.
But the mother (Mrs Blessing Kadiri) turned down her request but later accepted after series of plea by the head-teacher who resides in Uromi.
On the 9th of January 2025, Mrs Blessing Kadiri was surprised to see his son in her compound at Idumeka quarters, Igueben. On noticing his movement, Jude wasn’t walking normal, which attracted the concern of mother and other neighbors in the area, when interrogated, Jude explained that the Head-teacher later gave him to her son’s wife (Mrs Abigail) at the same Uromi, who now use a hot knife from fire to inflict injuries on private part, and deposited some contraceptive substances on his body through laps.
These however, prompted the mother to call the said Abigail to enquire what happened but Abigail reign insults on the mother, with many unprintable names, and alleged that the son (Jude) raped her 3 children and confessed that even a side the injuries, there are some contraceptive family planning she deposited on Jude, which cannot be remove except she’s paid the sum of #100,000 (One hundred thousand naira only) without, Jude will not and cannot impregnate any woman in his life.
On hearing these confessions, Jude was taken to a nearby hospital, where about 2 contraceptive family planning substances were removed but the doctor also revealed that there is still another that need to be remove which will involve a medical surgery operation.
On the 11th of January 2025 being Saturday, the civil rights actors led by Enabulele Larry, visited the divisional police headquarters in Uromi in company of victim and the mother to formally incident the matter, and were ably received by the divisional crime officer (DCO), who after carefully listening to narrative, intimated the DPO and call for the immediate arrest of the suspect and a police medical reform was issued to enable the victim access proper medical attention.
While the unremorseful suspect is currently cooling her head in the police cell in Uromi, EDOCSO calls for the immediate transfer of the matter to the police State headquarters in Benin for a proper and unbiased investigation process and prosecution.
