French President, Emmanuel Macron, has called for an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council following the escalating conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
Macron, in a statement on Saturday, warned that the outbreak of hostilities among the three nations carries “grave consequences” for international peace and security.
“The outbreak of war between the United States, Israel, and Iran carries grave consequences for international peace and security,” he said.
Raising alarm over the fast-rising tensions, the French leader stressed that the situation could spiral further if urgent steps are not taken.
“The ongoing escalation is dangerous for all. It must stop,” Macron declared.
He noted that France is already taking measures to secure its territory, protect its citizens, and safeguard its interests in the Middle East.
Macron added that Paris stands ready to deploy necessary resources to assist its allies if required.
The French President urged Iran to return to negotiations, particularly over its nuclear and ballistic programmes, insisting that diplomacy remains the only path to lasting peace.
“The Iranian regime must understand that it now has no other option but to engage in good faith in negotiations,” he said.
He also called for the Iranian people to be allowed to freely determine their future, condemning what he described as violent repression by the regime.
Macron confirmed that France has formally called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, in line with its international responsibilities.
He disclosed that he is in close contact with European partners and allies in the Middle East as diplomatic efforts intensify to contain the crisis.
The call comes amid growing global concern that the conflict could widen, with far-reaching implications for regional stability and international security.
