The unexplained death of a 76-year-old man, whose body was discovered in a remote forest in Imasayi, Ogun State, has sparked concern among residents and security personnel in the area.
Pa Sikiru Olatunji, who had been missing since February 8, 2025, was found on Saturday, a mile and a half from the nearest village, Wasinmi Abule Maria, in the Imasayi Police Division. His body was located following an extensive search operation by local authorities, including officers from the Imasayi Police Division, the Amotekun Corps, and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), as well as local hunters and the Baale (community leader).
Despite the thorough search, no clear cause of death has been identified. The body was discovered face-up with a cutlass by Olatunji’s side, but there were no visible signs of injury or violence, leaving investigators puzzled.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed that authorities are treating the case as suspicious and have launched a full investigation to determine the circumstances of Olatunji’s death. However, the family of the deceased requested the immediate release of the body for burial, which was granted.
“We urge anyone who may have information that could assist in the investigation to come forward,” said CSP Odutola. “The Ogun State Police Command is committed to getting to the bottom of this matter, and your cooperation will be invaluable.”
Local residents have expressed fear and confusion over the death, as the area is known for its peaceful nature, and no clear motive or explanation for the pensioner’s demise has emerged as yet. Investigators are now appealing for any relevant information to aid in solving the mystery.
