NBA Honours Edo NUJ Chairman, Festus Alenkhe with Prestigious Award of Excellence

In a ceremony highlighting the synergy between journalism and law, the Benin branch of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) has conferred an Award of Excellence on Comrade Festus Alenkhe, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council.

The honour, bestowed on Alenkhe for his outstanding contributions to society through his incisive crime reportage, brought to the fore the critical role of the media in promoting justice and social order.

The award was presented by Nosa Edo-Osagie, Chairman of the NBA’s Benin branch, famously known as the Lion’s Bar.

Edo-Osagie lauded Alenkhe’s exceptional dedication to his craft, noting that his work stands out among peers due to its professional rigour and impact.

The decision to honour Alenkhe, according to Edo-Osagie, came after a meticulous review of his contributions to society, particularly his role in exposing and reporting crime both within and beyond Nigeria’s borders.

“Alenkhe’s commitment to fearless and accurate crime reporting has not only informed the public but has also significantly contributed to the fight against crime. His work exemplifies the power of journalism in shaping a safer society,” said Edo-Osagie during the award presentation.

In his acceptance speech, Comrade Alenkhe expressed profound gratitude to the NBA for recognizing his efforts, adding that the award would motivate him to intensify his efforts toward societal development.

He highlighted the collaborative relationship between the NBA and NUJ in addressing societal ills, noting that both professions are pivotal in the fight against crime and injustice.

“The NBA and NUJ share a common goal – to correct societal wrongs and ensure a community free from fear and intimidation. This award inspires me to continue using my platform to rid our society of crime and uphold the principles of justice,” Alenkhe remarked.

He also commended the legal practitioners for their unwavering commitment to justice, acknowledging their role in defending the rule of law and their resilience in the courtroom as essential to the broader fight against crime.
