Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested a woman in Kano for allegedly hiding more than 1,000 Tramadol capsules inside a fake pregnancy in a bid to traffic the banned drugs out of the country.
The suspect, who pretended to be heavily pregnant, reportedly strapped a locally fabricated belly around her waist and concealed the illicit pills inside it to beat security checks.
NDLEA officials said the woman raised suspicion during a stop-and-search operation, prompting officers to conduct a thorough examination, which led to the shocking discovery of the hidden consignment.
Investigations revealed that she was attempting to smuggle the drugs across the border to Cotonou before her arrest.
Authorities condemned the act, describing it as a risky and deceptive tactic often used by traffickers, and reiterated their commitment to intensifying surveillance and intelligence operations to curb drug smuggling.
The suspect remains in custody and will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
