Usman Ododo, the newly elected governor of Kogi State, has made some key appointments to his administration, and the details of these appointments have been made public. The appointments cover various important roles such as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief of Staff (COS), Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Director General of Protocol, and commissioners.
Dr. Folashade Arike Ayoade has been appointed as the SSG, and she will be continuing in this position from the previous administration. She is a highly experienced academic with a PhD in political science and is expected to bring her wealth of knowledge to the smooth running of the state government. She hails from the Kogi West Senatorial district.
Ali Bello, a businessman and politician, has been appointed as the COS. He is a nephew of Yahaya Bello, the previous governor, and is known to have a close relationship with Yakubu Adabenege, the Auditor General of Local Government. Adabenege was also reappointed by Ododo and was instrumental in the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 governorship election. Bello’s appointment is seen as a sign of continuity and loyalty within the ruling party.
Alhaji Suleman Ibrahim has been appointed as the Director General of Protocol, and he will be responsible for overseeing the official ceremonies and diplomatic relations of the state. He is known for his professionalism and etiquette and is a former aide to Yahaya Bello.
Oladele John Nihi, a former youth leader and activist, has been appointed as the CPS. He was the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Kogi State chapter, and is a vocal supporter of Ododo and his policies. He is expected to use his communication skills and media savvy to promote the government’s image and agenda.
The governor also named several commissioner-designates, some of whom are returning to their former portfolios. They include Kingsley Fanwo (information), Ashiwaju Idris Ashiru (finance), Engineer Bashir Gegu (solid minerals), Wemi Jones (education), and Barrister Salami Ozigi Deedat (local government and chieftaincy affairs).
