The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has confirmed the arrest of Bristol Isaac Tamunobiefiri, popularly known by his alias PIDOM, a well-known investigative journalist and social media figure.
The arrest, which has sparked widespread concern, was announced in a statement released on Saturday, August 24, 2024, by the Force’s spokesperson, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi.
The confirmation came after David Hundeyin, another prominent investigative journalist, raised the alarm on Friday, August 23, about PIDOM’s sudden disappearance.
Hundeyin’s concerns, shared widely on social media platform X, prompted a wave of public anxiety regarding the journalist’s whereabouts.
According to the official statement from the NPF, PIDOM was arrested on August 5, 2024, by the National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) in Rivers State.
He was reportedly apprehended in his hotel room following allegations of involvement in activities deemed to undermine the integrity of government operations.
“There are several allegations leveled against the suspect, including unlawful possession, leakages of classified documents, cyber-related offenses, and others,” ACP Adejobi stated. He emphasized that the police force is committed to a thorough investigation of the allegations, assuring the public that “no stone will be left unturned” in the pursuit of justice and national security.
PIDOM, known for his investigative work and active presence on social media, particularly on X, has been a critical voice on various national issues, often highlighting corruption and other forms of misconduct.
