The Federal Government of Nigeria is ramping up plans to evacuate its citizens from Iran and Israel as the conflict between the two countries intensifies.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged all Nigerians in the affected areas to contact the nearest Nigerian embassies in Tel Aviv and Tehran to register for evacuation.
“All affected Nigerian citizens are strongly advised to abide by all necessary security protocols,” the ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, said in the June 17 statement.
Mr Ebienfa commended Nigerian diplomatic missions in both countries for their commitment and proactive outreach to citizens despite the dangerous circumstances.
The ministry assured Nigerians that the safety and welfare of its people remains a top priority, noting that officials were working closely with international and local bodies to facilitate a safe evacuation.
The government also called on all parties involved to cease hostilities, embrace dialogue, respect humanitarian law and protect civilians from further harm.
“Nigeria stands firmly for peaceful resolutions to conflicts and will continue to advocate for global stability through diplomatic engagements,” Mr Ebienfa added.
Further updates will be communicated as the situation evolves, the ministry assured.
