The Army Headquarters (AHQ) Validation Team has visited the Base Camp of Nigerian Contingent 10 (NIGCOY 10) serving in the ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG), as part of efforts to assess operational readiness and ensure compliance with the mission’s mandate.
The four-man delegation, led by Colonel O.O. Olusanya, arrived at the Yundum Base Camp on Tuesday, 2 September 2025. Their mission included evaluating the combat preparedness of the troops, reviewing operational activities, and assessing the effective use of equipment deployed in The Gambia.
Addressing the troops, Col Olusanya commended the Commanding Officer, Lt Col S.A. Agada, and his men for their professionalism. He urged them to remain vigilant, disciplined, and resilient in carrying out their duties, while warning against any form of misconduct or Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA). He also conveyed the command philosophy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Olufemi Oluyede, assuring that identified challenges would be escalated to the high command.
During the visit, Lt Col Agada conducted the team on a tour of the Base Camp and briefed them on NIGCOY 10’s operational activities, which include training, patrols, and civil-military cooperation (CIMIC). He highlighted both the unit’s achievements and challenges, reaffirming their commitment to sustaining operational momentum and protecting lives and property in line with the mission mandate.
The AHQ team was also received at ECOMIG Force Headquarters by the Force Commander, Colonel Ndiagne Diouf, who underscored the importance of the visit as an opportunity to gain first-hand insight into NIGCOY 10’s operational environment. The delegation further interacted with the Deputy Force Commander, Colonel K.H. Okeniyi, and other staff officers.
Additionally, the team paid courtesy visits to the ECOWAS Special Representative and Head of Mission in The Gambia, Her Excellency Madam Miatta Lily French, and Nigeria’s High Commissioner to The Gambia, Ambassador Mohammed Manu. Both envoys commended the Nigerian contingent for its dedication and invaluable contribution to peace and stability in the country.
