The Edo State Police Command has arrested two men, including a pastor, in connection with the gruesome murder of a seven-year-old boy in Irrua, Edo Central Senatorial District.
Pastor Ijebor Simon, 45, and Destiny Okojabhole, 23, were taken into custody following the disappearance and subsequent discovery of young Evans Okojabhole’s mutilated body. The child was reported missing by his father, John Okhojibole, on 22 February 2025. Tragically, his remains were found a day later in a bush near their home.
According to police spokesperson Moses Yamu, the boy’s body had been horrifically disfigured—his stomach cut open, his feet severed at the ankles, and several fingers removed. Investigators swiftly apprehended the two suspects, who have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department in Benin City for further questioning.
In a separate case, police have arrested three men—identified as Ibrahim Agboje (known as King), Yakubu Abudulkareem, and Kareem Audu—in connection with the murder of a local vigilante commander, Victor Ogedengbe.
Ogedengbe, 50, was attacked and killed on his farm in Erah Camp, Owan East Local Government Area, in what authorities suspect to be an assault carried out by armed herdsmen. His death was reported to police on 25 February by the chairman of the Owan East Local Government Area, prompting an investigation that led to the arrests. The suspects have also been transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department.
Meanwhile, security concerns in Edo State continue to mount following the killings of two more individuals on their farms in Okpekpe Community. In response, Edo State Commissioner of Police, Betty Enekpen Otimenyin, has ordered increased security measures in Uzanu and the surrounding areas.
The police command urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as they intensify efforts to curb violent crimes and ensure public safety across the state.
