The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, Plateau State, has successfully hosted the 13th Basic Stream Short Course on Strategic Leadership, Ethics, and Policy Making (SLEAMP), reinforcing its role in shaping governance and leadership in Nigeria.
The intensive programme brought together professionals from various government agencies across the country, providing them with advanced leadership perspectives and ethical decision-making frameworks crucial to their roles in governance and policy implementation.
Among the distinguished participants were top government functionaries from Edo State, including: Chief Marie Bisi Idaomi, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mr Joseph Nyamdi, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, Mrs Ese Martina Omoruyi, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Mining, Mrs Bose Joy Igbinobaro, Permanent Secretary, Human Resources, Mrs Irenonsen Joy Ihensekhien, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development.
Also in attendance was the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo State Council, and Defence and Security Correspondent of Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS), Dr Festus Alenkhe.
Speaking at the passing-out ceremony, the Director-General of NIPSS, Professor Ayo Omotayo, reaffirmed the Institute’s commitment to enhancing quality leadership in Nigeria. He stressed that many distinguished leaders from the military and public service have passed through the Institute since its establishment in 1979.
He further emphasised the critical role of ethical leadership and policy formulation in national development, urging emerging leaders in Nigeria to enrol in NIPSS to acquire essential leadership skills and strategies.
“The institute was founded to streamline leadership acumen and drive forward-thinking policies that will shape Nigeria’s future,” he stated.
In an interview, Dr Festus Alenkhe, Edo NUJ Chairman expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for sustaining the Institute since 1979. He also commended the management of Edo Broadcasting Service for their support, stating that the knowledge acquired during the course would be put to judicious use in his professional and leadership roles.
The 13th SLEAMP course provided a unique platform for cross-sectoral engagement, reinforcing the significance of ethical leadership in national development.
With participants drawn from various sectors, the programme underscored the need for collaborative leadership, sound policymaking, and ethical governance as Nigeria seeks sustainable development in the years ahead.
