The Edo State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has declared full support for the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) over its planned nationwide protest against what it described as the monopolistic grip of Alhaji Aliko Dangote in the oil sector.
In a statement signed on Sunday by Comrade Bernard Joman Egwakhide, Chairman of the Edo NLC and made available to Uptown Press, the union vowed to mobilise all its affiliates in solidarity with the Warri Zonal Council of NUPENG as the industrial action kicks off on Monday, 8 September 2025.
“The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Edo State Council, is in receipt of a letter to embark on a nationwide protest by one of its affiliates, NUPENG, on the monopolistic agenda in the oil sector and the draconian anti-union activities by Alhaji Aliko Dangote and his cronies,” the statement reads in part.
The Edo NLC further urged residents to brace up for fuel scarcity during the strike period, advising workers and the public to stock up on petroleum products ahead of filling station closures.
Reaffirming the labour movement’s principle of solidarity, the statement concluded: “An injury to one is an injury to all.”
