The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has uncovered a shocking scandal involving the illegal mobilization of a bread seller for national service at the University of Calabar (UNICAL).

This discovery has led to the demobilization of 54 graduates who were also found to have been fraudulently included in the NYSC programme.

According to the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier-General Yusha’u Ahmed, the demobilized individuals were prevented from receiving Certificates of National Service, a key document required for employment in Nigeria.
This crackdown is part of the NYSC’s ongoing efforts to ensure the integrity of the national service programme and prevent future occurrences of such fraudulent activities.

The NYSC had previously invalidated the certificates of 101 graduates from the university who were also illegally mobilized. Brigadier-General Ahmed warned that those involved in these fraudulent activities would be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

The Pro-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Udom Ekpoudom, commended the NYSC for uncovering the scandal.
He pledged to take strong action against any university staff found to be involved in the illegal mobilizations, ensuring that such practices do not recur.
