Obaseki has announced a crackdown on cultism and formed a task force to address the issue.
Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, announced a ban on Okaigheles (youth leaders) in Edo South Senatorial District to combat rising cultism.
Following a meeting with security chiefs, he emphasized implementing the anti-cultism law to its fullest. With over 150 deaths linked to cult-related activities since January 2024, Obaseki declared a “total war” against cultism, establishing a task force led by the DSS Director.
The task force will scrutinize all cult-related incidents and perpetrators. Obaseki warned of strict legal action against anyone claiming to be an Okaigele.
Commissioner of Police Funsho Adegboye affirmed the commitment of security agencies to enforce the law impartially, ensuring even high-profile individuals face justice.
