The Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, emphasized that Nigeria can achieve its full potential through the concerted efforts and willingness of its citizens to rebuild the nation. Governor Obaseki made this assertion during a State Banquet held in honor of the visiting Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Michel Deleen, partners in the development of the Okomu landscape compact, and a delegation from the Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria (BON) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The dinner was organized to appreciate the Consul General and other dignitaries, including a delegation from BON attending their 79th General Assembly in Benin City, members of the IDH Compact team implementation committee, and officials from the IOM.
In his remarks, the Chairman of BON, represented by his Vice Tony Akiotu, praised Governor Obaseki for his legacy projects. “Governor Obaseki is a silent worker. Sometimes it is good to make noise, positive noise about your accomplishments in office,” Akiotu said.
Michel Deleen, the Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, acknowledged the positive changes in Edo State under Governor Obaseki’s administration.
“I have been posted to Libya and have also seen the story from the other side. It is great that the present governor has changed the narrative,” Deleen noted.
The event provided Governor Obaseki with an opportunity to familiarize himself with the BON members and other dignitaries. In his address, the governor highlighted the remarkable achievements of the past seven years, including numerous landmark projects that have positively impacted the wellbeing of Edo State citizens.
“We have been able to change the image of the State from what we met on ground in 2016,” Obaseki stated.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of gifts to the distinguished guests, marking the conclusion of a night celebrating collaboration and progress.
