The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Wilfred Afolabi, has pledged to bring to justice those responsible for the recent arson attack on the Divisional Police Station in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area.

The police station was set ablaze on Sunday by unidentified assailants, following tensions stemming from a family dispute that escalated into a violent altercation. The command’s spokesperson, CSP Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed that Commissioner Afolabi visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment of the damage.

According to Odunlami, the unrest began on Saturday when a conflict between two families erupted into a public brawl. Police officers, led by an Inspector from the Ifon Division, intervened to restore order and made several arrests.

Subsequently, a young man involved in the altercation, identified as Tobi Bobade, was brought to the police station by one Mr Losilosi. Bobade appeared to be in a weakened state and was promptly taken to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. Despite efforts to stabilise him, he was later pronounced dead while receiving treatment. His remains have since been transferred to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, for a post-mortem examination.

Following news of Bobade’s death, an enraged mob, reportedly led by his father, stormed the police station and set it on fire. The attack severely damaged several key areas of the station, including the administrative office, the office of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), the station’s store, and two impounded vehicles.
