One Dead in Shootout as Police Clash with Armed Robbers in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has reported the death of a suspected armed robber following a confrontation with a notorious gang operating along the Sagamu/Ijebu-Ode axis. The incident took place near Western University, where the criminals had barricaded the highway close to several bridges.

In a statement issued on Sunday, police spokesperson Omolola Odutola revealed that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Odogbolu swiftly mobilised a response team after receiving urgent reports of the robbery. A joint operation was launched, involving officers from Odogbolu, reinforcements from Obalende, and members of the Amotekun security outfit.

During the operation, one suspect was fatally shot, while several others managed to flee into nearby bushes with gunshot injuries. A firearm was recovered from the scene, and the body of the deceased was taken to the Ijebu-Ode General Hospital Morgue.

The Ogun State Police Commissioner, Lanre Ogunlowo, has ordered enhanced patrols and surveillance along the highway to ensure the safety of road users. Investigations are ongoing, and police efforts are focused on tracking down the remaining suspects.
