As political conversations ahead of the 2027 elections gradually gather momentum, supporters in Oredo West say the constituency does not need fresh promises but sustained results — a performance they insist is already being delivered by Richard Osaro Edosa.
Dr. Edosa, the member representing Oredo West Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, currently serves as Deputy Chief Whip and Chairman of the House Committee on Health.
A medical doctor, researcher and former lecturer at the University of Benin, the lawmaker has built a reputation for combining professional expertise with grassroots political representation since assuming office in 2023.
Supporters point to his legislative and constituency interventions as evidence of what they describe as “people-centred leadership.”
In the health sector, Edosa has been vocal in the fight against medical quackery through the proposed Edoherma Bill currently before the Assembly. He has also supported medical advancement by donating modern laboratory equipment to the University of Benin, while organising free medical outreaches that have reportedly benefitted thousands of residents.
His interventions in education have also attracted attention within the constituency. The lawmaker sponsors free Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board forms annually for more than 300 students, a move aimed at improving access to tertiary education.
Further details obtained by this online newspaper indicate that Edosa recently completed the reconstruction of Edokpolor Grammar School, alongside the upgrade of Oza Primary School with new classroom blocks and borehole facilities.
Infrastructure development has also featured prominently in his constituency projects. Solar-powered streetlights have been installed across several wards in Oredo West, while solar boreholes have been provided in key markets to support traders and residents.
The lawmaker also facilitated the reconstruction of market bays and rehabilitation works on Adesuwa Road.
Beyond infrastructure, Edosa’s empowerment initiatives have targeted youth, women and vulnerable groups in the constituency. Beneficiaries have received grinding machines, sewing machines, generators and business start-up kits, while over N10 million has reportedly been distributed as interest-free loans to support small businesses.
The programme also includes digital skills training for young people and support for persons living with disabilities through mobility aids and employment opportunities.
Political observers say Edosa’s leadership style — characterised by frequent town hall meetings, open engagement with constituents and community support initiatives including food distribution during Ramadan — has helped strengthen his grassroots connection.
With the next electoral cycle still some distance away, many residents in Oredo West have begun rallying around the slogan “No Vacancy in 2027,” insisting that the constituency has found a representative whose performance speaks louder than campaign rhetoric.
