The Edo State Government has reconnected to the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), ending a five-year breakaway that began with the launch of Ossiomo Power.

The move follows the shutdown of Ossiomo Power on September 1st amid a bitter ownership tussle between the firm and its Chinese partners, Jiangsu Communication Clean Energy Technology (CCETC).

Ossiomo Power, with a generation capacity of 95MW, had supplied electricity to key government institutions, including the Government House, the Edo NUJ Secretariat, private organisations, and major streetlight networks across the state.

Confirming the reconnection, the Director General of the Edo State Electrification Agency, Saturday Omozokpea Egbadon, said BEDC has already restored power to several government buildings and streetlights, while efforts to extend supply to other affected areas remain ongoing.
