Despite being heavily linked with a move away from Arsenal, Mikel Arteta has confirmed that the Ghanaian will stay with the London-based club for the foreseeable future.
After losing his place in the Gunner’s starting XI during the second-half of the 2022/23 campaign, Partey was reportedly considering his exit options ahead of the new season.
However, following Arsenal’s 2-0 loss to Manchester United in a recent pre-season friendly, Arteta confirmed that Partey will be part of his plans in the upcoming campaign despite the signing of Declan Rice.
“Without a question of a doubt, Thomas Partey is a super important player for us and for me. I want him to be in the team,” Arteta said, as per Sky Sports.
“Every time I spoke to him and every time I have a conversation with him, his will is to stay with us. For me, there’s nothing there at all.”
“They can play together and that was in my plans,” he said. “You want to improve the squad and have more quality.
“We need players who can play together but we need players in the same position who can fight for their places.”
