Edo State Police Command has arrested eight individuals in connection with the recent violent clashes in Obazagbon Community, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, which left a trail of destruction and loss of life.
Confirming the arrests on Wednesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Yamu, stated that order had been restored following a prolonged dispute over the community’s leadership.
The arrested suspects, all male, include Obayuwana Happy (25), Uhunwangho Everest (52), Chidera Umeh (21), Joshua Edo (50), Simon Benjamin (39), Odion Adagbonyin (43), Kennedy Ohro (42), and Osayi Adagbonyin (41).
Tragically, the violence led to the killing of a hearing-impaired artisan identified simply as Mr Efe. Several properties valued at millions of naira were also set ablaze during the unrest.
CSP Yamu credited the swift intervention of the Iyekogba Divisional Police Officer and operatives of “Operation Rescue” and the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for the arrests.
The Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, has assured that those found guilty will face the full force of the law.
