The Police Council has approved the appointment of Olatunji Disu as the substantive 23rd Inspector General of Police.
Disu was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Acting IGP following the resignation of the former police boss, Kayode Egbetokun.
The Police Council, chaired by the President, comprises the 36 state governors, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, and the Inspector-General of Police.
In attendance at the meeting today are the Vice President, Kashim Shettima; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and Head of the Federal Civil Service, Didi Walson-Jack.
Others are the Governors of Lagos, Kwara, Ogun, Nasarawa, Plateau, Ondo and Enugu States.
The Deputy Governors of Kogi and Delta States as well as Ministers of Police Affairs, Federal Capital Territory and Interior, were also in attendance.
Disu has since hit the ground running.
As a response to the ongoing war in the Middle East between the United States, Israel and Iran, Disu ordered the State Police Commissioners to intensify intelligence and be at alert to nip any potential security situation in the bud.
Already, many countries in the Middle East and outside of the Gulf states are being drawn into the war as Iran continues to respond with devastating missile attacks following the killing of the country’s Supreme Leader, Ali Hosseini Khamenei.
