Commissioner of Police visits Agenebode, assures corps members of safety

In a renewed effort to bolster security in Edo North, the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, has announced the establishment of a new Tactical Division in Ivieukwa-Agenebode, Etsako East Local Government Area.
The announcement was made during a strategic security visit to Agenebode on Friday, 19 July, as part of ongoing assessments aimed at strengthening the state’s security architecture. The Commissioner was accompanied by the Area Commander, ACP Rilwanu Musa, the Divisional Police Officer for Agenebode, CSP Egom Assima Ogar, and heads of other tactical units.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, and made available to Uptown Press, the newly created Tactical Division is designed to function as a rapid response unit, focusing particularly on security threats in rural and riverine areas within Etsako East and its environs.
As part of his visit, CP Agbonika made stops at St. Peter Grammar School Corps Lodge and the Immaculate Conception Junior Seminary in Ivianokpodi-Agenebode, where he interacted with members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) currently posted to the area. He assured them of the Command’s unwavering commitment to their safety and well-being.
Highlighting the proactive measures being adopted to stem the tide of criminality, CP Agbonika said the Command is deploying personnel from the State Intelligence Department (SID) to ensure timely gathering of actionable intelligence. He stressed that the move to set up the Tactical Division aligns with the police’s broader strategy to prevent crime before it occurs and to swiftly respond to emerging threats.
“The Nigeria Police Force under my leadership in Edo State remains committed to working in synergy with communities, institutions, and other security stakeholders to uphold law and order,” CP Agbonika stated.
The Edo State Police Command called on residents to remain law-abiding and to support ongoing security operations by providing timely and credible information that can assist in crime prevention and detection.
The creation of the Tactical Division marks a significant step in the fight against insecurity in the northern axis of Edo State, particularly as concerns grow over the safety of rural communities and the protection of critical human capital, including youth corps members.
