The Nigeria Police Force has announced the nationwide enforcement of mandatory third-party insurance, with the exercise set to begin today, Saturday, 1 February 2025.
In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the initiative is part of ongoing efforts to bolster road safety and ensure compliance with insurance requirements by vehicle owners. The enforcement is aimed at protecting both motorists and other road users by ensuring all vehicles are adequately insured.
The police have issued a stern warning to all vehicle owners and operators, stressing that non-compliance with the insurance regulation will lead to strict penalties. The Force has further reiterated that no exemptions will be made, and offenders will face enforcement actions.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has instructed all state police commissioners, as well as authorities in the Federal Capital Territory, to ensure that the enforcement is carried out without delay. This move underscores the commitment to enhancing road safety across the country.
Motorists are advised to ensure they possess valid third-party insurance documents to avoid any legal consequences.
