The Enugu State Police Command has begun a manhunt for the suspects behind the killing of a staff member of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), identified as Cosmas, in the Emene area of Enugu.
According to local sources, the incident occurred on Tuesday evening as Cosmas was returning home from work. Armed assailants reportedly intercepted his vehicle in an apparent carjacking attempt. When he resisted, they opened fire, fatally shooting him.
“He had just left the depot and was heading home when the gunmen double-crossed him. They tried to take his car, but he wouldn’t give in. That’s when they shot him on the spot,” said a source familiar with the situation, who asked not to be named.
